Final Fantasy 7 actor urges fans to stop tagging voice artists in inappropriate character content
Briana White, the voice behind Aerith in the Final Fantasy VII remake series, has urged fans to stop tagging voice actors in explicit fan-made content featuring their characters. The comments were shared on X.
White’s reaction came after KPop: Demon Hunters actor Rei Ami discovered adult fanfiction involving her character Zoey. White responded by suggesting that some fans had “forgotten the meaning of the word inappropriate,” and emphasized that tagging performers in sexualized material crosses boundaries.
Maybe let's normalize not tagging voice actors in smut of their characters..... Some of y'all have forgotten the meaning of the word inappropriate 😔 https://t.co/r5FbBQKIht
In a series of posts, White wrote, “Maybe let’s normalize not tagging voice actors in smut of their characters,” adding that the issue ultimately comes down to consent. Some users argued Ami had actively sought out the content, but White stressed that the broader problem involves fans pushing unwanted material on performers who may wish to avoid it.
White noted that she has seen a wide range of Final Fantasy VII fan creations—including ones she deliberately tries not to encounter—because of how frequently content featuring Aerith appears in her mentions. “It’s really a shame when VAs want to interact with the people who love the characters on social media but just a few creeps ruin it for everyone,” she wrote.
White, who first portrayed Aerith in the 2020 Final Fantasy VII Remake, has continued the role in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. She acknowledged being closely associated with the franchise, saying the content “gets shown to me every single day anyway.”
After discussion continued online, White accepted that Ami had voluntarily looked up the fanfiction in question, but maintained her original point. “Alright alright y’all have spoken and I hear you,” she wrote. “Point stands, just not for [Rei Ami]. Carry on.”
White is set to reprise her role in the third and final chapter of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. Director Naoki Hamaguchi recently clarified that the concluding game will not cut content, but will instead aim for pacing that feels more streamlined than Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
