Is Homer really dead? Patty and Selma’s feud sparks chaos in The Simpsons season 37 episode 9 ‘Aunt Misbehavin’
A sibling feud leads to chaos and unexpected twists in The Simpsons episode “Aunt Misbehavin’

Season 37, Episode 9 of The Simpsons, titled “Aunt Misbehavin’”, delivers a chaotic mix of sibling rivalry, absurd pranks, and classic Springfield humor.
The episode opens with twin sisters Patty and Selma Bouvier getting ready in their Spinster City apartment.
At the Springfield DMV, their supervisor announces he has won the lottery and is leaving. A coin toss determines Selma will take over his position, giving her new authority and sparking tension with Patty.
Selma’s power-trip escalates their usual rivalry, leading to friction in both their professional and personal lives.
Meanwhile, Bart wreaks havoc at a dentist appointment by eating a full sleeve of Oreo-like cookies, resulting in a massive bill.
Homer reacts by destroying Bart’s Xbox with a power drill, igniting Bart’s desire for revenge. Patty sees an opportunity and collaborates with Bart to prank Homer further, hacking into the DMV system using Selma’s login to have Homer legally declared dead.
Homer’s faux death, however, backfires humorously: freed from bills and responsibilities, he is delighted by the situation. He even claims the Krusty Burger black card that Marge receives for free meals for life.
A montage depicts Homer relaxing in a hammock while a team of organ donor collectors arrives, but a medic collapses, leaving Homer unharmed.
Eventually, Homer is legally restored to life so the family can use him in a plan to reunite Patty and Selma.
Back in Springfield, tensions rise further as Selma begins dating a new boyfriend, Merle (voiced by Stephen Tobolowsky), who moves into the sisters’ shared apartment without Patty’s consent.
Patty decides to move out and takes a new government job in Palm Springfield, a desert oasis parody of Palm Springs. Concerned for their well-being, Marge, with Bart and Lisa’s help, orchestrates a reunion at an LPGA tournament.
At the tournament, Patty and Selma face off with Marge as mediator. The sisters reconcile and decide to live in adjoining apartments, maintaining their bond while respecting each other’s space.
They immediately resume shared activities, such as watching MacGyver together, highlighting the humorous yet affectionate dynamic that has defined their characters for decades.
The episode blends Patty and Selma’s sibling rivalry with Homer’s comedic misadventures, showcasing the prank’s absurd consequences and his delight in the temporary “death.”
With clever jokes, strong character interactions, and playful storytelling, “Aunt Misbehavin’” exemplifies the humor and relational dynamics that have kept The Simpsons engaging for over three decades.
