At least 23 cases of violence against children were reported every day across Punjab in the first half of 2025, according to a new fact sheet released by the Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO).
The findings, based on district-level police data obtained under the Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Act 2013, paint a stark picture of rising reporting and persistently stagnant justice outcomes.
SSDO's analysis shows that 4,150 child-related criminal cases were registered between January and June 2025. While 3,989 cases were challaned, an overwhelming 3,791 remain under trial, underscoring severe delays in the justice process.
Despite improved reporting mechanisms over the past year, the organisation noted that conviction rates remain critically low, signalling deep structural gaps.
Only 12 convictions were recorded in six months across all categories of violence against children.
Sexual abuse remains one of the most troubling areas, with 717 cases registered, 658 challaned and 581 still under trial.
The category saw 12 acquittals and 8 withdrawals, yet zero convictions.
