Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos lead-sponsor 2026 Met Gala and shape expectations for event
As top sponsors of the event, the pair will influence funding, guests and the “Costume Art” theme

Lauren Sánchez Bezos and Jeff Bezos will serve as the lead sponsors of the 2026 Met Gala, a role confirmed by the Metropolitan Museum of Art as it prepares for its major “Costume Art” exhibition on May 4, 2026.
Their contribution will fund a substantial portion of the gala and exhibition, marking a significant return for Bezos, who last sponsored the event in 2012 while serving as honorary chair.
The museum noted that the couple will support the event financially and potentially influence the guest list, a common outcome for major sponsors.
Sánchez and Bezos made their Met Gala debut as a couple at the 2024 “Sleeping Beauties” event, where Sánchez wore a custom Oscar de la Renta gown. Anna Wintour defended their appointment, telling the New York Times that Sánchez “loves costumes” and “loves fashion.”
Their high-profile wedding in Venice earlier this year attracted Sydney Sweeney, Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, Oprah Winfrey, Ivanka Trump and others, many of whom could be considered likely invitees to the 2026 gala.
The event’s theme, “Costume Art,” curated by Andrew Bolton, will explore “the centrality of the dressed body within the Museum, connecting artistic representations of the body with fashion as an embodied art form.”
Each year, a group of celebrity co-hosts supports the programme, with 2025 chaired by Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and LeBron James.
The dress code has yet to be announced, though fashion biographer Amy Odell suggested it may encourage “naked” dresses, aligning with Sánchez’s preference for figure-hugging and sheer designs.
Additional sponsorship will come from Saint Laurent and Condé Nast, underscoring the event’s continued status as fashion’s most influential annual fundraiser.
