Police launch 'No Bullet on Wedding' campaign

In a decisive move to curb rising incidents of celebratory gunfire at weddings and other social events, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police have announced a strict enforcement campaign modelled after Punjab's approach, under the banner "No Bullet on Wedding." Senior police officers have instructed officials across the province to take immediate action against individuals firing shots in the air, with amendments to existing laws also being prepared.

According to officials, this initiative aims to prevent unnecessary deaths, injuries, and the spread of weapon culture in society. Under the new directive, the groom will be held accountable first, followed by his associates if they are found firing weapons. In cases of excessive firing, the groom may be detained for five to six hours, or even overnight in police custody for severe violations.

Recent operations in Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, and Abbottabad have resulted in the arrest of several grooms, with heavy weapons including LMGs, M4 rifles, Kalashnikovs, and pistols recovered from their possession. In recent months, celebratory gunfire in the province has claimed the life of a child and injured over 16 others.
