Security of educational institutions beefed up

RAWALPINDI:

Following the new wave of terrorism and the recent suicide attack in Islamabad, the strictest security directives have been issued for all public and private colleges, universities, schools, and government educational institutions across the Rawalpindi division.

Armed security guards have been declared mandatory for every university, college, and school. First aid, rescue, scouts, and girls guides training has been made compulsory for students of universities, colleges, and high schools.

The Civil Defence Department will begin practical training today, covering rescue skills, first aid, fire extinguishing, safe evacuation from burning buildings, and precautions against explosive materials. Special training teams have already been formed.

Meanwhile, Punjab Higher Education Commission has issued a province-wide security alert following severe threats from the Home Department.

Colleges have been instructed to enforce entry through a single main gate, strict checking of bags and vehicles, and the use of metal detectors. All colleges are required to install CCTV cameras, barbed wire, fire alarms, and additional security staff.

During college hours, the main gate will remain locked, while a small gate will stay open under constant guard presence. Entry of unauthorised individuals into educational institutions has been banned.

In compliance with Home Department orders, strict security measures have also been mandated for all government and private schools in the Rawalpindi division, including large private school chains.

Schools must install CCTV cameras around their premises and display emergency phone numbers prominently.

District and divisional education officers will ensure implementation of all directives.
