The Mumbai Police Anti-Narcotics Cell has intensified its investigation into a large mephedrone network after Mohammed Salman Safi Sheikh was deported from Dubai and taken into custody.
According to interrogation details noted in a police remand copy, Sheikh has given statements linking several Bollywood celebrities to parties allegedly funded by the drug syndicate operated by wanted trafficker Salim Dola, regarded as an associate of Dawood Ibrahim.
The case has expanded sharply from a smaller bust in February 2024, with Sheikh becoming the fifteenth arrest in the probe.
Investigators say he handled logistics for the network, from sourcing peddlers to managing supply routes. The remand copy states that he named Shraddha Kapoor, Siddhanth Kapoor, Nora Fatehi, Zeeshan Siddiqui, Alishah Parkar, producer Abbas Mustan and rapper Loka among those who attended gatherings in India and overseas where drugs were allegedly circulated.
Police documents describe these events as taking place at private farmhouses or upscale venues and funded through proceeds earned from mephedrone distribution across several Indian states and abroad. The investigation has also indicated that similar gatherings were held in Dubai and Thailand, with supplies reportedly moved through Indian-origin businessmen.
The Enforcement Directorate is examining suspected laundering of drug profit and authorities are preparing to issue summons to the individuals named for detailed questioning as the joint investigation by the Crime Branch, ANC and ED continues.
