Singer Akon was arrested in Atlanta on Friday after police discovered he had an outstanding warrant issued by the Roswell Police Department, according to authorities.

The 51-year-old artist, whose real name is Aliaune Badara Thiam, was briefly detained and later released the same day.

The Chamblee Police Department confirmed that the arrest took place outside Tint World, an auto accessory business located on Chamblee Dunwoody Road. Around 11 a.m., officers were alerted by Flock cameras, a license plate recognition system, that a vehicle registered in Akon’s name was present at the location.

When officers arrived, they verified that the car was indeed linked to the singer and approached him outside the business. Police said Akon cooperated fully with their instructions and was taken into custody without incident.

He was transported to the DeKalb County Jail, where he was processed and released a few hours later. The reason behind the warrant has not yet been disclosed.

Authorities stated that the warrant originated from Roswell, but no further details have been made public. FOX 5 Atlanta has reached out to the Roswell Police Department for additional information regarding the nature of the charges.

This marks another legal incident involving a major celebrity in Georgia, drawing attention to the state’s increasing reliance on advanced surveillance technology like Flock Safety cameras to identify vehicles connected to criminal cases.

As of now, Akon or his representatives have not issued an official statement regarding his arrest in Atlanta or the Roswell warrant.
