Rod Wave arrested in Atlanta after police find suspected lean, oxycodone pills, and firearms
Rapper Rod Wave was arrested in Atlanta on November 7 after police reportedly discovered suspected narcotics, firearms, and a baby bottle containing what authorities believe to be lean during a traffic stop. The 25-year-old Florida native, born Rodarius Green, faces multiple charges related to drug and weapon possession.
According to an arrest warrant obtained by Atlanta News First, officers observed Rod Wave speeding and failing to stop at a stop sign in Northwest Atlanta at approximately 7:30 p.m. Police alleged he was traveling at around 45 mph in a 35 mph zone. After initiating a traffic stop at a nearby gas station, an officer instructed the rapper to exit his vehicle and placed him under arrest for reckless driving.
A pat-down reportedly uncovered a .40 caliber Glock handgun with a high-capacity magazine concealed in his waistband. Officers also discovered a baby bottle containing about one fluid ounce of a purple substance suspected to be lean, a mixture commonly made from codeine cough syrup and soda.
A further search of Rod Wave’s vehicle revealed additional suspected Promethazine, Oxycodone pills, a Sig Sauer P320 9mm firearm, and a backpack filled with bundles of cash. Police also detained the rapper’s passenger, identified as Jamond Byner, who was found with a small quantity of marijuana.
Both men were arrested and charged — Rod Wave with reckless driving, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a firearm or knife, while Byner faced similar drug and weapon charges. Both denied ownership of the suspected narcotics.
Rod Wave’s attorney, Drew Findling, issued a statement to XXL, calling the arrest unlawful and claiming his client was “unjustly profiled.” Findling accused the Atlanta Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit of targeting the rapper as part of what he described as “a quota-driven approach” to policing.
Rod Wave and Byner were released from Fulton County Jail on November 8 after posting bond. The arrest came on the same day the artist received a Grammy nomination, according to his legal team.
