Matthew McConaughey and Michael Caine join ElevenLabs to digitally replicate their voices

Oscar-winning actors Matthew McConaughey and Michael Caine have entered into agreements with New York-based artificial intelligence company ElevenLabs, allowing the startup to create digital replicas of their voices for various projects. The collaboration underscores Hollywood’s deepening relationship with AI technology and highlights the industry’s evolving stance on ethical and creative uses of synthetic media.
McConaughey, who first began working with ElevenLabs in 2022 and has since become an investor, will use the company’s technology to bring his Lyrics of Livin’ newsletter to Spanish-speaking audiences. The translated version will feature narration in his AI-generated voice, maintaining his signature tone and cadence. However, McConaughey’s voice will not be made available on ElevenLabs’ public licensing platform, known as the Iconic Voices Marketplace.
Michael Caine, meanwhile, has taken a more public-facing role in the partnership. His voice will be featured on the Iconic Voices Marketplace, a new ElevenLabs initiative that allows verified brands and creators to license celebrity voices for approved digital use. “For years, I’ve lent my voice to stories that moved people,” Caine said in a company statement. “Now, I’m helping others find theirs.”
The marketplace already includes an array of legendary Hollywood figures, offering digitally recreated voices of icons such as John Wayne, Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli, and Maya Angelou. ElevenLabs says the platform was developed to help balance innovation with consent and control, allowing artists or their estates to manage how their digital likenesses are used.
Valued at approximately $6.6 billion, ElevenLabs has quickly emerged as one of the most prominent companies in AI audio generation, specializing in realistic voice synthesis and multilingual dubbing. While the technology promises to make global content distribution more efficient, it also reignites debate over the future of human performance and the ethical implications of digitizing celebrity voices.
As AI continues to reshape the entertainment landscape, McConaughey and Caine’s involvement marks a new stage in Hollywood’s ongoing conversation about authenticity in the age of algorithms.
