‘South Park’ creators say politics is pop culture as Paramount lets them “do whatever we want”
Creators of ‘South Park’ target Trump and MAGA as politics turns pop culture, with full freedom from Paramount

The creators of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, have addressed the show’s recent focus on Donald Trump and the MAGA movement, explaining that the political shift reflects broader changes in pop culture.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, the duo said that the series’ ongoing critiques of Trump were less about becoming political and more about mirroring how politics has come to dominate everyday entertainment.
“It’s not that we got all political. It’s that politics became pop culture,” Parker said. He noted that while discussions took place about returning the series to its classic format, “there’s no getting away from MAGA.”
The recent seasons of South Park, which began airing in late July, have featured a string of politically charged episodes. These include depictions of Trump in surreal scenarios, such as being impregnated by Satan, and other satirical takes on MAGA figures.
Stone explained that South Park has always targeted cultural taboos, saying, “Trey and I are attracted to that like flies to honey. Oh, that’s where the taboo is? Over there? Ok, then we’re over there.”
Parker added that the pair wanted the first episode of Season 27 to signal their independence, while stressing that the show continues to mock all forms of extremism. “Any extremists of any kind we make fun of. We did it for years with the woke thing. That was hilarious to us. And this is hilarious to us.”
Responding to the new episodes, a White House spokesperson criticised South Park as “a fourth-rate show” with “no authentic or original content,” claiming that President Trump’s record “speaks for itself.”
Stone and Parker confirmed that Paramount’s new leadership has allowed them “to do whatever we want,” ensuring that South Park remains unrestricted in its creative direction.
