Suspect dies in police custody

LAHORE:

A suspect in police custody was killed during an encounter in the Hair area when his accomplices opened fire in an attempt to free him.

According to Crime Control Department (CCD), ASI Nadeem and his team were escorting the suspect, identified as Yasir, for recovery when his accomplices ambushed the police vehicle.

Yasir was fatally hit by his companions' gunfire, while the attackers managed to escape. Police shifted the body for post-mortem and launched a search operation to arrest the fleeing suspects.

Meanwhile, a constable of Shahdara Town Police Station, injured in a road accident during duty, succumbed to his injuries at Lahore Mayo Hospital.

Constable Hamid was critically injured a few days ago when a speeding truck ran over him while he was trying to save a rickshaw. He was admitted to the hospital's surgical ICU but could not survive his injuries, passing away around 4:10 am.
