Zohran Mamdani, the newly elected first Muslim mayor of New York City, has gone viral after concluding his victory speech to the Bollywood hit track “Dhoom Machale.” The moment quickly sparked excitement across social media, with many calling it one of the most iconic political celebrations in recent memory.

According to multiple reports, the 34-year-old Democratic socialist secured a historic win in the mayoral race, defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa. Mamdani’s progressive campaign, focused on social equity and economic reform, resonated strongly with voters — also making him the youngest New York City mayor in a century.

In his victory address, Mamdani declared, “My friends, we have toppled a political dynasty. I wish Andrew Cuomo only the best in private life, but let tonight be the final time I utter his name as we turn the page on a politics that abandoned the many and answered only to the few.”

As he wrapped up his remarks, the opening beats of Dhoom Machale — an energetic Bollywood anthem — began playing. Standing beside his wife Rama Duwaji and mother Mira Nair, the acclaimed filmmaker behind Monsoon Wedding and Salaam Bombay!, Mamdani waved to cheering supporters.

The song choice instantly went viral online, with fans flooding X (formerly Twitter) with reactions. One user wrote, “They’re playing music from Dhoom at the Zohran HQ. Iconic.” Another quipped, “Walking off as NYC mayor-elect to Dhoom Machale — possibly the most iconic thing Zohran has ever done.”

Mamdani’s victory has garnered international attention, particularly in India, where his family roots lie in Rourkela, Odisha. The symbolic fusion of political triumph and Bollywood flair underscored his unique cultural identity and global appeal.
