Rama Duwaji, the city’s next First Lady, attends Zohran Mamdani’s win in a black ensemble
At Zohran Mamdani’s win, Rama Duwaji makes a statement in all-black attire

Rama Duwaji, the next First Lady of New York City, appeared alongside mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani at his election night event at the Brooklyn Paramount Theater on Tuesday.
The appearance marked her first major public event since Mamdani’s victory, which made him the youngest mayor in a century and the city’s first Muslim and South Asian mayor.
Duwaji, 28, an artist and illustrator, wore an all-black outfit composed of pieces from independent designers.
She wore a sleeveless denim top by London-based Palestinian designer Zeid Hijazi, featuring laser-etched embroidery inspired by traditional tatreez motifs.
She paired it with a black mid-calf velvet-and-lace skirt by New York designer Ulla Johnson and long silver spike earrings by Eddie Borgo, completing the look with black kitten-heel boots.
The combination of designers from New York and abroad reflected her background in the arts and her connection to both local and international creative communities.
Duwaji’s appearance drew attention as she prepares to take on her new public role alongside Mamdani at City Hall in the coming weeks.
