Widespread rain, hailstorms and the season's first snowfall in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's (K-P) upper regions transformed the province's weather on Tuesday, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures.
Light to moderate rain accompanied by gusty winds was reported in Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Karak and other plains, while heavy downpours, hail and snowfall were recorded in the Malakand Division, the Meteorological Department said.
According to officials, the current spell of rain was expected to continue through Wednesday.
The sudden change in weather brought relief to residents after prolonged dry conditions, though strong winds disrupted power supply in some areas.
Meanwhile, Shangla district experienced heavy rainfall, hail and snowfall in its upper and mountainous regions, marking the first light snow of the winter season. The snowfall increased the cold, while the combination of hail and rain caused a sharp decline in temperatures across the region.
Hailstorms damaged apple and other fruit orchards, while power supply in several localities was disrupted.
The Met Office forecast indicated that the rain and snowfall would persist in parts of Malakand, Hazara and upper Kurram divisions, while the plains of southern K-P may continue to receive light showers.
