Cop suspended for beating citizen

HARIPUR:

The District Police Officer (DPO) of Haripur suspended a police constable after a video went viral showing police personnel forcibly searching and assaulting a citizen in the busy Kohala Bala Bazaar.

The footage, which circulated widely on social media, prompted the DPO to take immediate notice and order an inquiry. According to police sources, the incident occurred when the Makhniyal Police Station team attempted to search a 27-year-old man named Jameel, a resident of Kohala Bala, who was suspected of selling narcotics in the market.

When the police tried to frisk him, the suspect resisted and refused to cooperate. The officers then allegedly tried to arrest him forcibly, leading to a scuffle in which Jameel reportedly attacked the policemen.
