Doctors protest murder FIR over dengue death

Lawyers and civil society protested outside Hyderabad Press Club, demanding arrests

HYDERABAD:

Doctors and paramedics at Civil Hospital Hyderabad staged a protest and boycotted OPD services after a murder case was filed against the Medical Superintendent (MS) and nine doctors following the death of 17-year-old dengue patient Hasnain, son of Aamir Lutf Zardari.

The FIR, registered at Market Police Station on court orders, accuses hospital staff of criminal negligence. Hasnain allegedly remained untreated for hours, denied a bed, and was later refused ICU admission due to lack of space. His father claimed, "My son was not given the ventilator support he needed."

Lawyers and civil society protested outside Hyderabad Press Club, demanding arrests. Advocate Aamir Zardari said, "Police registered the case, but no arrests have been made."

MS Dr. Akbar Dahri called the case politically motivated, citing Sindh Bar Council elections. "If every patient death leads to a murder case, how will doctors treat anyone?" he asked.

Young Doctors Association and LUMHS Teachers Association warned of wider protests, calling the FIR premature and unjust. "Doctors don't kill patients deliberately," said Dr. Roshan Chandio. Medical staff demanded immediate withdrawal of the case, citing insecurity and disruption to patient care.
