KARACHI:

A young man has become the latest victim of a honey trap, falling into the hands of dacoits from the katcha areas, who have now demanded a ransom of Rs20 million, a Rado wristwatch, and an expensive mobile phone for his release.

The kidnappers, who have kept the victim chained, recorded a disturbing video of him being tortured at gunpoint and sent it to his family via WhatsApp. In the video, the young man is seen pleading for his life, urging his family to pay the ransom to secure his release.

The victim's brother, Taimoor, lodged a formal complaint with IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon at the Central Police Office, accusing the Al-Falah police of refusing to cooperate. In his complaint, Taimoor, a resident of Azeempura in Malir, stated that his brother Junaid had gone out with friends on the evening of Oct 24, at 5pm, but did not return home.

Around 10.30pm on Oct 29, Taimoor received a call from Junaid's phone. An unknown voice on the other end informed him that Junaid had been kidnapped and demanded Rs20 million for his release, threatening to kill him if the ransom was not paid. The following morning, a disturbing video was sent from Junaid's phone to the family, showing him being tortured by the kidnappers.

Taimoor explained that when the family approached the Al-Falah police for help, the officers not only refused to file a report but also treated them with disdain. "They told us to go to Kashmore to register the case, as though they wanted us to get kidnapped too," Taimoor told The Express Tribune.

In his application to the IGP, Taimoor said that his brother had been lured into the trap by the kidnappers. "My brother was enticed through a honey trap and now he is in the hands of these criminals," he said.

Subsequently, a DSP from Kashmore reached out to the family and collected all the details. "The kidnappers have given us five days to pay the ransom, and three days have already passed. Only two days remain. The police must ensure my brother's safe recovery," Taimoor added.
