RAWALPINDI:

A cheetah was reportedly sighted near the boundary wall of the New Islamabad International Airport, triggering swift action by airport authorities.

The animal's movements were recorded by CCTV cameras, and the footage has since circulated publicly.

According to officials, the cheetah was seen late at night near the airport's perimeter, after which the airport administration immediately informed the Wildlife Department. Upon inspection, the wildlife team discovered fresh paw prints leading towards the nearby forested area.

The matter was subsequently referred to the Punjab Wildlife Department (Rawalpindi) after it was confirmed that the site fell within Punjab's jurisdiction. Officials stated that by the time the team arrived, the cheetah had already retreated deep into the forest.

A Wildlife Department official told The Express Tribune that the airport management has been advised to strengthen the fencing along the forest boundary and to maintain close monitoring over the next four to five days.

He added that should the animal reappear or any further movement be detected, the Wildlife Department must be notified immediately for appropriate action.
