KARACHI:

Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) lawmakers on Tuesday criticised the Sindh government for turning the e-challan system into a revenue-generating tool that burdens citizens while failing to curb corruption in the traffic police.

They claimed over Rs12.5 million in fines were issued within six hours, yet officers continue to harass motorists and solicit bribes despite surveillance cameras.

The party highlighted the disparity between strict enforcement on ordinary drivers and unchecked operations by heavy-vehicle mafias.

Separately, MQM-P condemned the provincial government's handling of surrender ceremonies at Shikarpur police lines, where alleged robbers and kidnappers with bounties ranging from Rs2 to Rs7 million were reportedly given state-sponsored re-carpet receptions. They called it a mockery of justice and urged a high-level inquiry into the motives behind these surrenders. While the city dewellers are penalized for traffic violations, the katcha robbers get away with murder, they said.
