Donnie Wahlberg and Marisa Ramirez shared an on-screen reunion during the premiere of Boston Blue, the new CBS spinoff of Blue Bloods, which aired on Friday, October 17.
The debut episode confirmed that Ramirez reprised her role as Detective Maria Baez in a surprise appearance alongside Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan.
The episode opened with Reagan relocating to Boston after his son Sean, played by Mika Amonsen, was seriously injured while responding to a shooting that led to a building fire.
Danny’s arrival in Boston sets up the storyline for the new series, which follows a different law enforcement family led by Sonequa Martin-Green’s character, Lena Silver.
About three minutes into the episode, fans were treated to a scene clarifying Danny and Baez’s relationship since Blue Bloods ended in 2024.
At the moment, Danny receives a phone call at home with Maria by his side. “I thought we said when we stay at my place, we turn our ringer off,” Danny joked. “It’s your phone, smart ass,” she replied, moments before Danny learned of Sean’s hospitalisation.
The episode also featured Bridget Moynahan’s Erin Reagan, who visited the hospital to support her brother and nephew. “You should get packed up, Maria packed you some clothes,” Erin said, adding that Maria was “worried sick.”
The new series follows Danny and his Boston counterpart investigating a deadly fire at a tech company, uncovering family secrets and issues linked to facial recognition technology.
Wahlberg previously wrote on Instagram that he was “so excited to carry on the tradition” and “answer some unanswered questions.”
Boston Blue airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS, with episodes available the next day on Paramount+.
