Smash Bros creator Masahiro Sakurai to star in his own manga biography
Masahiro Sakurai, creator of Super Smash Bros and Kirby, gets his own manga biography releasing in November

Masahiro Sakurai, the legendary creator of Super Smash Bros. and Kirby, is set to star in his very own manga biography later this year.
The upcoming book will chronicle his journey from childhood to becoming one of Japan’s most influential game designers.
According to Famitsu, the 160-page manga was supervised by Sakurai himself and will explore his life, career, and creative process. The manga is titled Learn About People and Work Through Manga: Masahiro Sakurai – Making the World More Fun with Games (machine translated) and will be published by EastPress on November 18, 2025. Priced at 1,430 yen (approximately $9 USD), it is now available for pre-order through Amazon Japan and Rakuten Books.
The biography is divided into six chapters that highlight key moments in Sakurai’s career — from his early passion for video games to the creation of Kirby of the Stars and Super Smash Bros., as well as the founding of his studio, Sora Ltd. It also delves into how his game design philosophy shaped modern gaming culture.
The six chapters are titled: “Boy Sakurai and Games,” “The Birth of Kirby of the Stars!,” “The Beginning of the Great Battle,” “Sora Limited Company Established!,” “Inheritance,” and “A Light for the Future.” The book concludes with an edited message from Sakurai himself.
In addition to the main story, the manga includes commentary columns from industry figures and a detailed timeline of Sakurai’s career. A digital version will launch alongside the print release, though no international edition has been announced yet.
