Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga to go on hiatus due to creators’ health concerns
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga goes on indefinite hiatus as creators focus on health and future plans

The official X (formerly Twitter) account for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End announced on October 15 that the manga will go on an extended hiatus, with no confirmed date for its return.
The announcement stated that the decision was made after discussions between creators Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe and the editorial team at Weekly Shonen Sunday, citing the authors’ health and the need to reassess the series’ publication schedule.
The statement from the editorial department read: “Considering the health of both Kanehito Yamada-sensei and Tsukasa Abe-sensei, we have consulted with them about future serialization after the next issue. The manga will be taking a hiatus for a while as we adjust the serialization pace and publication format to deliver the continuation of the story. Both authors are currently continuing their works. The editorial department will also continue to support them. The specific publication date will be announced in future issues of Weekly Shonen Sunday.”
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, created by Yamada (story) and Abe (art), has been serialised in Weekly Shonen Sunday since April 2020. The manga currently has 14 compiled volumes released in Japan, with Chapter 147 appearing in the magazine’s latest issue.
VIZ Media publishes the English-language edition of the manga, while Crunchyroll streams its anime adaptation worldwide. The first season received strong international attention, and the second season is set to premiere in Japan on January 16 2026.
Crunchyroll describes the series as a reflective fantasy following the elven mage Frieren, who embarks on a journey to understand humanity and mortality after her party of heroes defeats the Demon King.
Fans have expressed support for the creators, wishing them a healthy recovery and hoping for the manga’s eventual return once production resumes.
