Four suspected outlaws, who allegedly gunned down a young man during a vehicle snatching incident in Karachi but were themselves killed hours later in Jamshoro district, have been booked posthumously for attempting to kill police personnel.
The case, lodged at Jamshoro Society police post, was filed by Sub-Inspector Sajjad Ali Jamali, who, notably, made no mention of the alleged murder of Adnan Magsi in Karachi's Sachal Goth area in the FIR.
According to the complainant, the police received information that suspects involved in a car snatching - a Toyota Corolla (registration BQR-209) - had escaped from Karachi's SITE police limits and were heading toward Jamshoro.
Acting on the alert, Jamshoro police rushed to the M-9 Motorway toll plaza, joined by a Hyderabad police team led by Inspector Naek Muhammad Khoso of A-Section police station.
"At around 6:20 pm, we spotted the car and signaled the suspects to stop, but they abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, firing at police," Jamali stated. After a chase spanning four to five kilometers, an exchange of fire ensued, killing all four suspects.
The deceased were identified as Ali Haider Mahar alias Haideru, Mehtab Mahar, Abdul Rehman Mahar, and Noman Mahar - with Haideru described as the leader of the gang. Police claimed to have recovered three pistols, a rifle, and the stolen car from the site.
The bodies were shifted to Liaquat University Hospital, Hyderabad, for postmortem. The FIR has been registered under Sections 324 and 353 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) for attempted murder and obstructing public servants.
