Battlefield 6 has recorded one of the strongest debuts in the franchise’s history, securing third place on Steam’s most-played chart within hours of release.

The new title from EA achieved a reported 747,000 concurrent players on Steam alone, placing it just below Baldur’s Gate 3 and Hogwarts Legacy in all-time peak numbers.

Social media reports, including a post from user Kami, suggest Battlefield 6 may be the most-played full-priced shooter ever on Steam, although that claim remains unverified. Regardless, its launch performance significantly surpassed the open beta’s peak of over half a million players.

These figures account only for Steam, while the game is also available through the EA app, the Epic Games Store, and consoles including Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. Combined totals across all platforms are expected to reach several million players during launch week.

The title marks a notable return to the franchise’s traditional military roots. Battlefield 6’s development incorporated player feedback through EA’s Battlefield Labs programme, an initiative that allowed community members to influence gameplay and features during testing.

Players have credited this approach for refining the core mechanics, bringing back elements inspired by Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3.

The game also emphasises high performance and accessibility, running smoothly even on mid-range PC hardware without relying on ray tracing.

As launch momentum continues, analysts anticipate Battlefield 6’s player count could climb further by the weekend, reinforcing its strong reception among fans and signalling renewed interest in the long-running series.
