LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday acquitted a man previously convicted in a drug smuggling case, ruling that the prosecution failed to present sufficient and credible evidence.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Farooq Haider and Justice Ali Zia Bajwa announced the decision while hearing the appeal of Shahid Imran, who had been sentenced to nine years in prison and fined Rs100,000 by a Mandi Bahauddin sessions court.

Imran's counsel argued that his client had been falsely implicated and that discrepancies existed between the drug samples tested by the forensic laboratory and the narcotics presented in court. The counsel pointed out that the samples produced during trial were not sealed separately to correspond with those analysed in the lab.
