Taylor Swift’s latest studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, has surpassed 3 million in traditional U.S. album sales, according to data from Luminate. The album — released on October 3 — sold 2.7 million copies on its first day, marking the second-largest sales week in the modern era since electronic tracking began in 1991. The only album to achieve higher first-week sales remains Adele’s 25, which debuted with 3.378 million in 2015.

Including streaming equivalents, The Life of a Showgirl has already earned more than 3.2 million equivalent album units in the U.S., according to Luminate. This makes it the second-largest week by total units since the Billboard 200 adopted the multi-metric ranking system in 2014. The album’s 12 tracks also generated over 300 million on-demand streams in its first two days.

Swift’s massive sales were driven by an extensive lineup of physical and digital editions — including 27 total variants across vinyl, CD, cassette, and digital formats. Midweek, Swift introduced four exclusive CD versions through her official webstore, each featuring unique cover art and bonus tracks. Collectively, the eight vinyl editions sold 1.2 million copies on day one, breaking her own record for the most vinyl sales in a single week, previously held by The Tortured Poets Department (2024).

Swift’s promotional push — including interviews and her Official Release Party of a Showgirl film, which topped the U.S. and Canadian box office — has bolstered anticipation for the album’s debut on the Billboard 200 chart on October 18. If it lands at No. 1, it will become Swift’s 15th chart-topping album, surpassing Drake and JAY-Z to hold the record for the most No. 1 albums by a solo artist.
