Travis Kelce’s popular podcast “New Heights,” co-hosted with his brother Jason Kelce, was not included in the Golden Globes’ shortlist for its inaugural Best Podcast category, announced on Friday. The omission came on the same day Taylor Swift, Kelce’s fiancée, released her latest album.
The Golden Globes, organised by Penske Media-owned entities including Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, unveiled 25 eligible shows for the new award.
While “New Heights” was absent, the shortlist featured several high-profile conservative figures, such as Tucker Carlson, Joe Rogan, Megyn Kelly, Ben Shapiro, Theo Von and Candace Owens.
Owens, who has 3 million YouTube followers, has faced criticism from detractors for promoting conspiracy theories and antisemitism. She was also reported to have parted ways with conservative activist Charlie Kirk after disagreements over her public comments.
The nominees were determined through data compiled by the analytics firm Luminate. Alongside political commentators, the list included mainstream Hollywood podcasters such as Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, Will Arnett, Amy Poehler, Dax Shepard, Alex Cooper of “Call Her Daddy,” and Mel Robbins, as well as the liberal podcast “Pod Save America.”
The selection will be reduced to six official nominees by 8 December. Observers have questioned how Hollywood voters will respond to the inclusion of outspoken conservative personalities.
In the past, Megyn Kelly has criticised Globe-nominated films, while Tucker Carlson has claimed that “Hollywood is going out of business because they don’t understand the country.”
The 2025 Golden Globes ceremony is expected to draw further attention as it recognises podcasts for the first time.
