Prince William has made a rare public reference to his estranged younger brother, Prince Harry, while reflecting on his own children’s future roles in the monarchy.
Speaking on the Oct. 3 episode of The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy, the Prince of Wales discussed preparing Prince George for his eventual role as king.
In doing so, he invoked his and Harry’s shared past, acknowledging challenges they both faced growing up under the weight of royal tradition.
“There are lots of things to think about with that,” William said, per People. “But obviously, I want to create a world in which my son is proud of what we do, a world and a job that actually does impact people’s lives for the better.”
He added: “That is caveated with, I hope we don’t go back to some of the practices in the past, that Harry and I had to grow up in, and I’ll do everything I can to make sure we don’t regress in that situation.”
William, 43, has been largely estranged from Harry, 41, since the Duke of Sussex and Meghan Markle stepped back as senior working royals in 2020 and settled in California.
Their last public appearance together was at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022.
The relationship remains strained, though Harry briefly reunited with King Charles III in September 2025 following the monarch’s cancer diagnosis.
William’s rare acknowledgment of Harry highlights how the royal family’s internal rifts continue to echo as the next generation, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, come of age.
