KARACHI:

The menace of extortion has once again reared its head in the metropolitan city, as unidentified assailants shot and injured a watchman after handing him an extortion slip near the Garden Jamaat Khana on Thursday morning.

Armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire at an under-construction building, seriously injuring 65-year-old Abdul Bakhsh, who was serving as the watchman at the site.

The victim suffered multiple bullet injuries to his legs and was shifted in critical condition to the Civil Hospital.

SHO PS Soldier Bazaar, confirmed that the attack was linked to an extortion attempt. He said the armed suspects approached the multi-storey project currently under construction — and handed over a parchi (extortion slip) to the watchman before opening fire and fleeing the scene. The extortion slip reportedly bore a foreign mobile number with instructions to make contact.
