RAWALPINDI:

The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has submitted development schemes worth Rs2.495 billion to the Punjab government for approval.

The proposals include the upgradation and beautification of all public parks in Rawalpindi, including Allama Iqbal Public Park, the establishment of new sports facilities, and the uplift, beautification, and development of green belts.

For the fiscal year 2025–26, the PHA has outlined a number of major initiatives. A flagship scheme, valued at Rs895.721m, has been drawn up for the remodelling, enhancement and beautification of Allama Iqbal Public Park on Murree Road, the city's largest park.

A further Rs796.847m has been earmarked for the comprehensive restoration and modernisation of all other parks across the city.

In addition, Rs552.800m will be invested in upgrading existing sports facilities and establishing new sports sites in selected parks. The uplift and development of green belts under PHA's jurisdiction will account for Rs249.853m.

According to PHA Director-General Ahmed Hassan Ranjha, the authority aims to give all parks in the city a new look, enhance recreational opportunities, and expand available amenities.

Existing sports areas will be improved, while additional sports facilities will be created wherever land permits. Plans are also in place to further improve the condition of green belts.

Ranjha added that the PHA is presently undertaking works along the Metro Elevated Route, from Faizabad to Saddar Metro Station. These include the installation of modern lighting, repainting of structures, and tree plantation along the central median and supporting pillars.

Furthermore, at its grand nursery in Gorakhpur, spread over 2,000 kanals, the PHA has cultivated large numbers of plants intended for the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) project.
