Sony Pictures has officially announced that Aaron Sorkin’s follow-up to The Social Network will be released under the new title The Social Reckoning on October 9, 2026.
Sorkin, who wrote the original 2010 film, will also serve as director for this second installment. The screenplay centers on a younger Facebook engineer, Frances Haugen (played by Mikey Madison), and journalist Jeff Horwitz (portrayed by Jeremy Allen White), as they collaborate to expose hidden truths behind the social network’s operations.
Jeremy Strong is confirmed to portray an older Mark Zuckerberg, extending the character’s arc from the original film. Bill Burr will also appear as part of the supporting cast.
The Social Reckoning picks up roughly 17 years after the events of The Social Network, which focused on the founding of Facebook and internal legal battles. The new narrative draws inspiration from investigative reporting such as The Facebook Files, highlighting the social and ethical challenges posed by the platform in its modern form.
Backing the production are producers Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser, alongside Sorkin himself. The October release mirrors the original film’s strategy, positioning The Social Reckoning as a serious, award-season–worthy drama.
As cast and production details continue to emerge, the film is expected to explore Facebook’s evolution, power dynamics, and influence on modern society, offering a fresh perspective on its cultural legacy.
