Women on wheels: Sindh distributes scooties under 'Pink Scheme'

Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari handed over keys to women beneficiaries of the “Pink Scooty Scheme,” a government initiative in Sindh that provides free electric scooters to women.

The scheme, launched by the Sindh Transport Department, aims to improve women’s mobility and create greater access to transportation and employment opportunities across the province.

Speaking at the event, Bilawal emphasised that the inclusion of women is essential for the development of any nation, economy, or society. He reiterated PPP’s commitment to women's empowerment and highlighted the steps taken by the government to improve public transport access for women across the province.

“It is a matter of pride that Sindh has already introduced electric buses in public transport and then launched the dedicated Pink Bus Service for women,” he said.

“Today, we are taking another big step by distributing electric scooters free of cost to women, which will not only ease their daily commute but also provide greater access to employment opportunities,” he added.

Bilawal also announced the upcoming launch of a new initiative - Pink Taxis - which will provide safe travel and job opportunities for women across Sindh. Quoting the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Bilawal said, “no nation can rise to the height of glory unless your women are side by side with you.”

He noted that while some countries are imposing restrictions on women, the Sindh government is actively working to expand their opportunities. “We want to send a strong message to Pakistan and the world - the Pakistan Peoples Party stands with the women of this country.”

He also appreciated the role of KFC Pakistan for partnering in the scheme by supporting bike training and licencing for women riders, calling on other private sector stakeholders to engage in public-private partnership models for mutual benefit.

Bilawal pointed out the transformative outcomes achieved through PPP in Sindh, particularly in Tharparkar's economic uplift, the construction of new roads and bridges, and improvement in education and healthcare sectors.

Speaking about agricultural support, Bilawal reiterated PPP’s commitment to flood-affected farmers, announcing that the government will offer financial aid through the Benazir Hari Card. Farmers owning up to 25 acres of land will receive support to buy fertilisers under this scheme.
