World champion figure skater Alysa Liu has confirmed that she will no longer skate her short programme to music by singer d4vd, following the launch of a police investigation involving the artist.

The 20-year-old American, who became the first US woman in 19 years to win the World Figure Skating Championships earlier this year, had previously announced that her short programme for the 2025–26 season would feature 'This Is How It Feels' by d4vd and Laufey.

In a statement posted to Instagram on Wednesday, Liu explained the decision: “As many of you know, I recently debuted a new short program for the ‘25–‘26 season. However, in light of recent news, my team & I are confidently pursuing a different direction that aligns with my values & just my overall ethos.” She added that she intends to take her time with the creative process and may perform older programmes in the meantime.

The change follows developments earlier this month when the body of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez was found in a Tesla registered to d4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed detectives had served a search warrant at a property linked to the singer in connection with the case. A representative for d4vd told NBC Los Angeles that he is “fully cooperating” with authorities.

Liu, a native of California, previously retired after competing at the 2022 Beijing Olympics and 2022 World Championships, before returning in 2024. Her comeback culminated with her victory at the 2025 World Championships in Boston, placing her among the favourites for the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics.

Her new programme music has not yet been announced.
