Meta is integrating artificial intelligence into Facebook Dating to streamline the search for love, aiming to reduce the stress of endless swiping and what it calls “swipe fatigue.” The new tools include an AI-powered dating assistant chatbot designed to help users refine their search criteria, enhance their profiles, and even suggest date ideas.
For example, users can simply type, “Find me a Brooklyn girl in tech,” and the assistant will provide relevant matches. Meta says this chatbot will be accessible within the Matches tab and is rolling out gradually across the US and Canada.
In addition to the chatbot, Facebook Dating is launching a new feature called “Meet Cute,” which automatically pairs users with a surprise match each week based on Meta’s personalized algorithm. The company believes it’s perfect for those tired of swiping and wants to help users discover new connections in a fun, effortless way. Meta also plans to experiment with adjusting the frequency of these surprise pairings in the future.
Meta highlights that hundreds of thousands of young adults in the US and Canada sign up for Facebook Dating each month, and these AI-powered updates are designed to help them connect with more people—without the need for expensive premium features.
This move comes on the heels of Tinder’s controversial $499/month subscription plan, which offers exclusive benefits, making Meta’s free, AI-driven approach seem more accessible by comparison. With its AI assistant and weekly surprise matches, Facebook Dating is betting that artificial intelligence can help ease the burden of online dating, making it more enjoyable and less tiresome.
