Employees of government hospitals have announced the complete closure of all OPDs, across Sindh, from today (Tuesday) in protest. They have demanded a 50 per cent increase in the Disparity Allowance, a 70 per cent raise in salaries, an end to pension deductions, and the timely payment of group insurance and benevolent funds.
The protest was declared after a meeting of the Grand Health Alliance (GHA) held at the Civil Hospital. Alliance leaders announced that offices too, along with OPDs, in all government hospitals across Sindh will remain closed until the alliance's demands are met, although emergency services will remain operational. They stressed that this action is being taken to the press for government employees to get their legitimate rights. Further, the leaders stated that the protest will continue unless the government announces concrete moves towards the proposed demands.
The GHA includes representatives from the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Young Doctors Association (YDA), Young Nurses Association (YNA) and Allied Health Professionals Association.
