Edible items' prices continue to rise

Prices of essential food items continue to surge across the district as 60 price control magistrates remain helpless in curbing the trend.

Efforts to reduce flour and sugar prices have failed, and Sunday bazaars and markets have turned into centres of inflation.

Eggs are being sold at Rs310 per dozen despite the extreme heat, while coriander, once given free with vegetables, now costs Rs80 for a small bunch.

Milk is priced at Rs220 to Rs230 per litre, yoghurt at Rs240 to Rs250 per kg, chicken meat at Rs700 per kg, live chicken at Rs420 per kg, mutton at Rs2,400 per kg, and beef at Rs1,400 per kg. Sugar has reached Rs190 per kg.

Among pulses, white gram is Rs415 per kg, chana dal Rs350, and mash dal Rs550.

Vegetables include potatoes at Rs100 per kg, onions at Rs110, tomatoes at Rs150, peas at Rs400, carrots at Rs350, lemons at Rs250, radish at Rs200, chillies at Rs150, bitter gourd at Rs170, cucumber at Rs90, colocasia at Rs200, tinda at Rs200, and apple gourd at Rs200.
