Sony’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle has become the highest-grossing anime film ever, amassing $555 million worldwide. Supported by Sony-owned Crunchyroll in North America, the UK, and Brazil, as well as Toho and Aniplex in Japan and Asia, the film earned $451 million internationally and $104 million domestically. It topped overseas box office charts again with $36 million from Crunchyroll-managed markets. Infinity Castle is the first installment in a planned trilogy following a boy’s quest to become a demon slayer to avenge his family and cure his demon-turned sister.

In contrast, two new Hollywood releases struggled at the international box office. Universal’s sports thriller Him and Sony’s romantic drama A Big Bold Beautiful Journey both failed to attract overseas audiences. A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, grossed only $4.5 million across 45 markets, while Him took in a mere $400,000 from 25 territories. Both films received poor reviews and audience ratings.

Domestically, Him opened with $13.5 million, bringing its global total to $13.86 million against a $27 million production budget. Directed by Justin Tipping, the film stars Marlon Wayans as an aging football quarterback mentoring a promising player to unsettling ends. Analyst David A. Gross noted that American football’s limited international appeal hurt Him’s overseas prospects but said the film could break even from domestic earnings alone.

Meanwhile, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey earned $3.5 million in North America, totaling $8 million globally, with major markets like France, Italy, and South Korea yet to open. Gross added that the film’s high production costs pose challenges to profitability.

Universal’s Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale performed moderately better overseas, adding $8.3 million from 35 markets in its second weekend, contributing to a $59.5 million global total. The film continues the beloved TV series but remains well below the $194.6 million global haul of the 2019 Downton Abbey film.
