SZA has called on her fans to stop generating AI images and songs of her, warning that the technology causes harm to vulnerable communities and contributes to pollution.

The R&B star, known for her Grammy-winning album SOS and singles such as Kill Bill, shared a series of posts on her Instagram story on September 19 addressing the trend.

Fans have been circulating AI-generated images that show them posing alongside SZA in front of a white curtain backdrop, with similar edits and AI music tracks also being shared online.

In her message, SZA asked supporters to reconsider the practice. “If you f*** w me PLEASE don’t make any AI images of me or songs. Ppl and children are dying from the harm n pollution AI energy centers are creating,” she wrote.

She added that while AI may appear harmless, it has consequences for underserved communities. “Every time U use or prompt AI someone in a forgotten community is suffering… eventually the effects will reach everyone. By then it’ll be too late,” she explained, arguing that a single “stupid photo” is not worth the environmental cost.

The singer also shared examples of AI edits using her likeness, making clear that she wanted the practice to end. “Yall I’m not crazy I swear. I’m just tryna save the children,” she wrote in a follow-up post.

Fans largely responded positively to the statement, with some acknowledging her concerns and others reacting with humour. One supporter even suggested they would wear a shirt featuring her Instagram story as a reminder of her callout if they met her in person.
