Seven including five children die in Hafizabad roof collapse

Woman and her son were giving tuition classes to a group of children when the roof caved in

At least seven people, including five children, lost their lives in a roof collapse in the Farooq-e-Azam area of Sukheke Mandi, in Hafizabad district of Punjab on Saturday.

Police said the house was being used as a tuition centre, where a woman and her son were teaching a group of children when the roof suddenly caved in. All seven individuals — the tutors and five young students — were buried under the rubble and died.

District Police Officer (DPO) Atif Nazir reached the accident site and directed speeding rescue operation with a hope of pull out the victims alive.

Authorities said, an inquiry had been initiated to determine the structural cause of the collapse.

The incident has left the local community shaken. The rescue operations continued until the evening.
