Seven guards were injured when unknown assailants hurled a grenade at the residence of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader Agha Shakil Ahmed Durrani and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Agha Shazeb Durrani, late Friday night in Khuzdar’s Do Talwar area.

According to SSP Khuzdar Shehzada Umar Abbas Babar, the attackers threw the grenade at the outer wall of the house, causing an explosion that was felt in nearby buildings.

“This was a cowardly act aimed at disturbing peace in the area,” he said, adding that fortunately no lives were lost and the injured guards sustained only minor wounds.

Police said the attackers, riding a motorcycle, managed to escape after the blast. Security forces have since launched a search operation, and additional personnel have been deployed in the area.

The SSP said further investigations were underway with the help of CCTV footage and witness statements, vowing, “we will soon arrest the culprits and expose the elements behind them.”

The injured guards were shifted to Khuzdar Teaching Hospital, where officials confirmed their condition was stable and they would be discharged soon.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti strongly condemned the attack, describing it as an act of terrorism.

In a statement on social media platform X, he said such incidents “cannot weaken the resolve of the people and political leadership.” He prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

He directed law enforcement agencies to conduct immediate investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice.

PPP leader Agha Shakil Ahmed Durrani, a former district mayor of Khuzdar, termed the attack a conspiracy by political rivals. “We are the party of martyrs, and such attacks cannot intimidate us. Restoring peace in Balochistan is our priority,” he said.

The incident spread fear among residents, but authorities said timely action helped stabilize the situation. Officials added that Khuzdar has seen such attacks in the past, and all resources were being utilized to restore peace in the district.
