KARACHI:

The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi on Thursday held a memorial event at the Haseena Moin Hall to mark the first death anniversary of celebrated poet Ajmal Siraj, drawing an audience of family, colleagues, literary figures and admirers.

Moderated by Siraj's son, Abdul Rehman Momin, the event featured a short video reel showcasing the late poet's life and literary journey, evoking deep emotion among attendees. A poetic tribute by Seman Naveed added to the poignant atmosphere.

Leading the tribute to the late poet, Arts Council President Ahmed Shah recalled his close association with Siraj. "My bond with Ajmal was built through his poetry. He was a brave and steadfast friend. His memories will always keep him alive in our hearts."

Prof Sahar Ansari described Siraj as a beloved literary figure whose passion remained undiminished throughout his life. "Even in his last Mushaira, his energy was as vibrant as in his first, he said. He urged the Arts Council to compile all his works into a complete anthology.

Dr Ziaul Hasan credited Siraj with shaping his own connection to Karachi, praising him as "a man of refined literary taste". Artist Shahid Rassam shared memories of friendship, calling Siraj a man of history and Sufi temperament, whose poetry stretched across themes and traditions.

Other tributes came from Javed Saba, who hailed Siraj's disciplined craft and mastery of words; Khalid Moin, who called his death "a shock beyond belief"; and Allaudin Khanzada, who said Siraj lived "a life worthy of pride."
