Habib University's Social Development & Policy Program held an intellectually urgent book launch on September 19th, for 'Gaza: The Story of a Genocide,' edited by Fatima Bhutto and Sonia Faleiro.
The anthology, featuring testimonies, poetry, photography, and frontline reportage from Palestine, was launched through a conversation between Bhutto and Peter Lagerqvist, Global Fellow at Habib University. Together, they reflected on the urgency of storytelling in the face of genocide, the moral weight of bearing witness, and the enduring role of art in resisting erasure and documenting truth.
In his introduction through the course he is teaching in the Fall semester, Palestine, Mon Amour: Anthropology After Gaza, Lagerqvist said, "the scale of destruction in Gaza is staggering, ammunition used on the region is reportedly seven times greater than the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. "
In her address, Fatima Bhutto stated, "more children have been killed in Gaza than in any other conflict. Israel has changed the nature of war. " The event served as a space for solidarity and engagement. Attendees were invited to reflect on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the global responsibility to respond with empathy and action.
