RAWALPINDI:

Police arrested a public transport driver and conductor for allegedly harassing female passengers — a woman police officer and a lawyer — and issuing them threats of grave consequences.

The two women immediately contacted the police via the emergency number 15, which resulted in a swift police response. The authorities arrested both the driver and conductor, seized the vehicle, and filed charges against them.

According to the authorities, R B, a resident of Kallar Saydan and a seasoned police officer with six years of service at the Women's Police Station, stated that she was travelling with her cousin, K N, a lawyer, when they boarded a public transport vehicle near the courthouse.

As they were alighting at Merri Chowk, the driver and conductor allegedly subjected her to harassment. Upon her cry for help, they were said to have used vulgar language, shoved her, and demanded she leave the vehicle.

The conductor also allegedly pushed her cousin and used offensive language towards her. Photographs and video footage of the incident were captured.

The women promptly called the police, and the authorities arrived swiftly to confiscate the vehicle and arrest the suspects. Given the severity of the situation, the women have raised concerns about their safety and have requested protection.

Pothohar SP, Talha Wali, said that the Civil Lines Police had acted quickly in response to the emergency call, arresting the driver and conductor for harassing the female passengers and threatening their lives.
