Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning bring star power to A24’s new thriller series ‘Discretion’

Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning are set to share the screen again, this time in a new A24 legal thriller series titled Discretion. The project is based on an as-yet-unpublished short story by acclaimed author Chandler Baker, who is adapting her own work for television. A24 secured the rights after what it described as a highly competitive bidding war, underscoring the project’s buzz even before its release.

The series will be set in Dallas and is inspired by Baker’s personal experience as a corporate attorney. While the exact plot details remain under wraps, the story is expected to examine themes of power, privilege and hidden conflicts within the legal world. Baker, known for novels such as The Husbands and Cutting Teeth, will also executive produce alongside Oscar-nominated screenwriter Susannah Grant, who penned Erin Brockovich and co-created Unbelievable.

Kidman will executive produce the series through her Blossom Films banner with long-time producing partner Per Saari, while Elle Fanning joins as both star and executive producer alongside her Lewellen Pictures partners Dakota Fanning and Brittany Kahan Ward. Additional executive producers include Grant, Baker, Jordan Cerf and Joe Hipps for A24.

This marks the latest collaboration between Kidman and Elle Fanning, who previously appeared together in The Beguiled (2017) and How to Talk to Girls at Parties. Kidman recently led the A24 thriller Babygirl and the Netflix miniseries The Perfect Couple, while Fanning has been earning acclaim for her role in the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown and the Oscar hopeful Sentimental Value.

Fans online are already buzzing over the high-profile pairing, with some calling the casting “dreamy prestige television in the making.” Others are intrigued by the secrecy surrounding the series, suggesting A24’s knack for elevated storytelling could make Discretion one of the standout debuts of 2026. Baker’s growing profile in Hollywood adds further anticipation, as she currently has multiple film and TV projects in development, including a Kristen Wiig-led adaptation of The Husbands.
