X-Men star Alan Cumming is once again stirring speculation about Avengers: Doomsday — this time by teasing a possible return for Halle Berry as Storm.
In a recent Entertainment Tonight interview, the Traitors host was asked whether Berry would be joining the growing list of returning X-Men actors in Marvel’s upcoming film.
“Well… maybe she does,” Cumming said with a laugh, before quickly adding, “But honestly, I’m the last person to ask.”
This isn’t the first time Cumming has dropped cryptic hints about Avengers: Doomsday. Last month, he revealed he had completed filming for the movie, stating he shot “the entire film in isolation” before heading off to work on the next season of The Traitors.
Back in May, Cumming sparked a wave of speculation after claiming he filmed a fight scene with Pedro Pascal, who’s playing Reed Richards. He later tried to walk it back, saying, “I broke the internet by mentioning something once… but honestly, I might have got it wrong.”
Avengers: Doomsday is expected to serve as a farewell to the original X-Men cast from the 20th Century Fox era. Cumming, who played Nightcrawler in X2, is rumored to share the screen with Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, James Marsden’s Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique, and Ian McKellen’s Magneto — with more legacy characters potentially in the mix.
Berry originally portrayed Ororo Munroe (Storm) in X-Men (2000), and reprised the role in X2, The Last Stand, and Days of Future Past. While she’s previously downplayed her involvement in Doomsday, telling a reporter “It’s not gonna be there” when asked about her name appearing in a potential cast reveal, Cumming’s comments have reignited hope among fans.
Avengers: Doomsday is expected to wrap up the Fox-era X-Men saga, paving the way for Marvel Studios’ own reboot. Following Secret Wars, the MCU will shift into a new timeline, introducing a younger X-Men team in a fresh reboot directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts, The New Avengers). And if history is any indication, Alan Cumming might just be the first to tell us all about it.
