Amanda Seyfried has issued a clarification following backlash over comments she made about conservative activist Charlie Kirk after his death.

The Oscar-nominated actor originally described Kirk as “hateful” in an Instagram comment, sparking criticism from conservatives who claimed she implied his killing was justified.

In a follow-up statement posted on Instagram, Seyfried explained that her words had been taken out of context. “I don’t want to add fuel to a fire. I just want to be able to give clarity to something so irresponsibly (but understandably) taken out of context,” she wrote. “We’re forgetting the nuance of humanity. I can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric and ALSO very much agree that Charlie Kirk’s murder was absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way imaginable.”

Kirk, 31, the co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot during a college speaking event in Utah on Sept. 10. His death has drawn widespread reactions across political and cultural lines.

Seyfried emphasized that while she disagreed with Kirk’s rhetoric, no one should face such violence. “This country is grieving too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings,” she added.
