Electronic Arts has relaunched Skate with its new “Drop In” campaign, a project developed in partnership with Uncommon Creative Studio to honour the community that kept the franchise alive during its 15-year hiatus.
The centrepiece of the campaign is a film shot in Mexico City, blending authentic skateboarding footage with the in-game physics of Skate.
Featuring legendary figures such as Ishod Wair, Atiba Jefferson, Jerry Hsu, David Gravette, Sean Malto, Breana Geering, and Yurin Fuji, alongside over 100 local street-cast skaters, the production aims to blur the line between skate culture and gameplay. Even the film’s cinematography was handled by a skater, reinforcing the project’s authenticity.
Jeff Seamster, Head of Creative on Skate, explained the team’s approach: “From the start, we’ve committed ourselves to building a great experience alongside our passionate community. Skate is a space to create, connect, and push the limits of play – whether you’re a lifelong fan or just learning to drop in.” He added that the relaunch marks a “huge step” in the game’s ongoing journey.
The film is supported by a broader campaign spanning streaming platforms, social media, and consoles. Its style reflects classic skate videos while incorporating fantastical elements inspired by the game’s mantra that “anyone can skate anything.”
Accessibility is also central to the relaunch, with Skate being free to download, ensuring that long-time players and new fans alike can join without barriers. By focusing on collaboration, Electronic Arts and Uncommon Creative Studio have positioned the “Drop In” initiative as more than just a promotional film. Instead, it acts as a statement about community-led storytelling and the culture at the heart of the franchise.
Skate will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and the EA App.
