Charlie Sheen has opened up about why he didn’t personally reach out to his former Two and a Half Men co-star Jon Cryer to appear in his new Netflix documentary, aka Charlie Sheen. The actor, known for his turbulent departure from the long-running sitcom, said the lack of direct communication was unintentional.

In an interview with People, Sheen explained that Cryer was the only person he didn't personally invite to be part of the project. “The only reason I didn’t call him was because I didn’t have the right number for him,” Sheen said. Instead, director Andrew Renzi contacted Cryer to participate in the documentary.

Sheen said he was moved by Cryer’s comments in the film. “When I saw everything that Jon spoke about, so honestly and very compassionately, I wrote to him and I said, ‘Hey, thank you for your contributions, and I’m sorry we didn’t connect personally,’” he shared, adding that he may have messaged an outdated number. “It’s not like Jon did not respond. He’s super responsible like that. So if you’re reading this, Jon, DM me your new number!”

Cryer, who played Alan Harper alongside Sheen’s Charlie Harper on the CBS hit series, offered his perspective on Sheen’s past struggles with addiction in the documentary. Sheen said Cryer’s reflections were insightful, especially regarding the root of his substance abuse issues.

“He said, ‘He’s a guy that doesn’t believe he deserves the things he has,’” Sheen recalled. “That hit me hard. Suddenly, I felt like I was on a couch in Jon’s therapy office.”

Sheen credited Cryer’s observations with helping him confront long-held insecurities about his success. “I had no formal education, didn’t finish high school, and then suddenly I’m famous. There was always this voice telling me it wouldn’t last.”

Sheen was fired from Two and a Half Men in 2011 amid public conflicts with CBS and show creator Chuck Lorre. He was later replaced by Ashton Kutcher. Despite their past, Sheen’s remarks suggest mutual respect remains between him and Cryer.
