Cardi B drew hundreds of fans in Washington Heights on Saturday during a surprise pop-up event held to celebrate her upcoming album.
The Grammy-winning rapper was seen dancing on the roof of her car outside the Cloud Deli on West 159th Street, while crowds gathered to capture the moment on their phones.
Her second studio album, Am I the Drama?, is set for release on Friday. The event was announced on Instagram and quickly turned into a neighbourhood celebration. Witnesses described the atmosphere as lively, with music, dancing and chants of “Cardi B is the Queen” echoing through the street.
Cardi B also danced with a baby passed up to her while fans cheered from below. Local resident Alba Cruz said, “People were screaming, ‘Cardi B is the Queen.’” Another fan described the atmosphere as electric, saying, “She was dancing and taking photos for the people. It was a surprise.”
One person was arrested on a minor charge during the gathering, though police provided no details. Still, the majority of the event remained festive, with fans climbing on vehicles and celebrating throughout the afternoon.
The pop-up also tied into her new single Bodega Baddie, which references the setting and inspired the choice of location.
